* 6″ bloom, 22″ tall, Early Season + rebloom, Evergreen
One of the best reblooming reds! In our garden the first round of scapes is followed immediately by a second and sometimes third round, extending bloom well over a month. Rich red blooms are well rounded with wide petals and a yellow throat. Fragrant.
I planted Lady Scarlet last April and I’m so glad that I did! During the latter half of April well into May we had an unusual dry spell so needless to say I had to keep her well watered. Then in mid-May we had a late frost. I’m 55 and can never remember such a late frost. So needless to say she had a rough start. But despite it all she came out of it and produced five scapes with a total of twenty four flowers that were gorgeous! If you want a tough, red-flowering day lily then I couldn’t recommend this one enough. I can’t wait to see what she does next year!
I have more than a dozen Lady Scarlet’s along the border of my huge raised bed and hands down, everyone raves about this one the most. I get big, gorgeous true red blooms that last all day. Mine don’t fade and they are in full sun.
I have had this daylily for several years. It is a good early bloomer and color is a rich red in the early morning. However I am very disappointed that it waterspots very easily and shrivels quickly in the heat of the afternoon sun. I have ordered over a dozen daylilies from Oakes, this is the most disappointing of the bunch 🙁
One should note that Lady Scarlet was pre-registered with the AHS in 2001. She is a true beauty and great performer in my garden. In this first year she was not quite 22 inches tall but the blossoms every bit the 6 inches stated in the description. This is another true red and a welcome addition to my cottage garden! If you like red daylilies, this is yet another “must have”!
This is the first year for Lady Scarlet in my garden. Two of the plants have rich red blooms but one of the plants has flowers that are not as red. I am enjoying them and hope for more consistent color in the next round of blooms.
All the fans ordered are doing wonderfully well and Lady Scarlet is the first of the bunch to bloom. Came a little darker red than in the pictures, a little smaller at 4.5″ and about 10″ shorter than the 22″ noted above, but equally as beautiful with currently at least 6 more buds waiting for their debut.

It’s pretty simple: most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter, dormant varieties won’t work for you; you need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.
We normally include bonus plants equal to about 20% of your order. And these aren’t “leftover” plants, or “whatever we’ve got lying around.” These are the same huge, healthy plants we sell. Just leave the decision up to us— we’ll pick something we know you’ll love!
Daylily Stickers!
After the year we’ve all had, we’re trying to wring whatever joy we can find out of every day— even Tax Day*. So we put our thinking caps on and thought, “What is silly and fun and makes everyone happy?”.
That’s when it hit us: stickers! To make your day brighter, we are offering 13 stickers free with every order today through April 19!!!
Stick ’em on your water bottle, your cooler, your laptop (even your wheelbarrow!) or wherever else you could use a bit of cheery color.
*We know that Tax Day has officially been moved to May 17. Since today is traditionally Tax Day, though, we’re going for it.
