WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.
BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!
FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.
BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order and are the same huge, healthy plants we sell. Just leave the decision up to us and we’ll pick something you’re sure to love!
ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

My favorite yellow daylily standing tall with that 8 inch bloom attracts admirers to it. I live in mid-coast Maine and have had this for many years it grows and multiples very well here.

This is the second year and these big yellow pinwheels showed out this year!! It couldn’t have a more appropriate name. When all my other daylilies were on their last blooms, this one kicked in with an explosion of huge yellow blooms. These and Madge Cayse were the only ones blooming and both were gorgeous. I have got to get more late season bloomers. I’m always sad when they all stop blooming. I’m so glad I got these beauties. They are on my must have list!

I just got these this spring. They now have lush green, healthy foliage and have numerous buds. They just started blooming and I am thrilled with the size and color. These will look great with my Ginger Swallowtail daylilies. Lovely! I am very pleased with this addition. I am in Northeast Alabama, zone 7 and we have had an abundance of God water this year so that helps. I also fertilized with Milorganite. I am well pleased with this beauty.

Both plants have attained their full size, and wow, did it flower this year! 14 scapes, many, many flowers. Mid season for me in Colorado. I have many other daylilies that don’t get to their average height because of the clay I have in my garden, but this one does beautifully.
Update 2020 – WOW, better and better. These flowers are huge, and the plants are large to, just the way I like them! 15-20 blooms a day. Gorgeous and expanding.

This is a replacement (yea customer service) for the same plant that did not return from last year. Last year’s was just the same, one nice yellow bloom and then it disappeared over the winter. As you can see, there is not a lot of foliage, as was the case last year too. We’ve had lots of rain this year and others are growing well. This bloomed early but I’m afraid it’s going to be another dud. This is not the same place it was planted before and this was was given LOTS of nice garden soil.

What is your hardiness zone? Zone 4
Received this as a bonus plant. It had one bloom and it was a lovely yellow. But there are very few leaves and it seems to be not very vigorous. It’s in a wonderful sunny location and has had plenty of water. Very disappointed with this plant.
