Yellow Explosion Daylily Features:

‘Yellow Explosion’ daylily is one of our own introductions. When we were deciding upon a name, we wanted to pick something that would reflect just how much this daylily blooms—because it doesn’t just bloom, it explodes with color! Masses of bright yellow blooms—great in the landscape. Its fun, seersucker-type bloom texture and lightly ruffled edge make it an extra beautiful addition to the mid to late season garden.

These cheery yellow blooms are 5 1/2″ and have a unique seersucker-type texture and a lightly ruffled edge. Growing tall on scapes around 27″ in our East Tennessee garden, we generally begin to see them around the middle of June. If you are to our north, you’ll likely see it a few weeks after us. If you are to our south, you’ll see it a bit before us.

A dormant daylily, Yellow Explosion is best grown in planting zones 3-8 as it needs a sustained cold period in the winter in order to be successful.

Thanks to its cheery bright yellow blooms, Yellow Explosion looks fantastic with every color of the rainbow! You can’t go wrong when placing this beauty in your garden design.

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

    Truly an explosion!

I’ve had Yellow Explosion for years, and it truly does explode in fabulous bloom each summer in my zone 6 garden. I love the seersucker texture of the blooms, and the foliage is very nice too. Another bonus is that this variety produces more proliferations than any other in my collection of over 300 varieties. This has given me lots of additional plants to share with friends and family – and who doesn’t like to do that?

This is by far my favorite daylily. It’s blooms are large and heavy textured. When the flowers are open you can see it from across the yard. It has done well in our area near Kalispell, Montana. It have grown well and the plant just took off blooming the first year. I just love Oakes Daylilies. They send large plants that bloom the first year you plant them.

It’s a large plant and I wish it carried more blooms. This is it’s 3rd year coming up and I’m really taking extra care this year as I love it’s huge blooms here in Z6. BTW, Oakes is the ONLY place for daylilies!

By far my favorite yellow daylily!! It does remind me of seersucker fabric – huge yellow flowers draw you right in and make you walk right up to it to get a better look. Simply beautiful!! The first time I saw this flower was at last years Oakes Daylily Festival…it was blooming en masse and I ran up to an employee to ask its name. It was breathtaking and I wanted it. Today as it’s blooming in my garden I have to say it really makes every other daylily look a little ‘less’ by comparison. Great job Oakes on a spectacular daylily!!

This flower is simply gorgeous!!!! I received it as my free lilly with an order and absolutely love it! It is so much prettier in person than it is on here. The color is a bright lemon yellow, and has a wonderful texture!

I have two yellow explosion that are one year old. I like how the blooms open very wide and also the thick texture of the petals. The bright color can be seen way down the block. Also, early in the season, the foliage on mine sticks straight out in all directions and has an informal-funky look which I really like. Would rate higher if it was a rebloomer.

I have had this dailily for just one year. It bloomed well, with great flower form and substance. It is one of two favorite yellowes that I have in my garden out of many. I would say it is a must have.

This plant arrived as a bonus with an order that I placed with my mom. I divided it into 2 pieces on arrival, and planted it never expecting to see a bloom this year. What a pleasant surprise it was to discover a lovely bright yellow bloom in July. I look forward to watching this clump multiply.
