Renowned for its excellent rebloom, these small, bright gold blooms appear very early in the season and continue to bloom on and off throughout. An early season bloomer, we can expect to see these cheery blooms early June in our East Tennessee garden. Thanks to outstanding rebloom, however, we can look forward to seeing it off and on throughout the season. Those to our north will see it a few weeks later than we do. Those to our south typically see it a few weeks before us. Black Eyed Stella is a Semi-Evergreen daylily which means it is a good fit for gardens across the nation PLUS it is an All American Selection which means it has been proven to grow successfully no matter where you live! Basically, you can’t go wrong with Black Eyed Stella in your garden!
Blooms are a bright golden yellow with a contrasting red eyezone; planting it with red daylilies is a natural and beautiful choice. However, Black Eyed Stella also looks outstanding with dark purple or sizzling orange for additional interest. Thanks to its size, it is also an excellent choice for a container. Even if you don’t have a ton of space, you can still have a burst of bright, seasonal color.

WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.
BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!
FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.
BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

My plant is in it s second blooming season. The first summer it got very large but never bloomed. It was the first daylily to bloom in its second summer blooming early resting and blooming late when little else is blooming.. The red border on its throat is not as quite as dark as the Oaks photos. This is a great plant for extending the growing season. I do not rate a flower a 5 unless it has spectacular color, size, and blooming habit.

I did not find this plant to be in the same category as Stella de Oro in terms of rebloom. A sad disappointment after all the hype about its similarity to its parent. Nor did I find the color to be dramatic enough with its red, not black, eyezone. A very misleading name.
