Bonus daylilies? What are those? (And how do I get some?!) One of the great things about Oakes Daylilies is that the Oakes family, like you, are gardeners, too. In fact, whether we answer phones, work in the fields, pack plants for shipment or write newsletters, the overwhelming majority of us that work here all have gardens of our own.
As a gardener yourself, you already know that gardeners are givers. We love to give our friends and neighbors everything from seedlings, advice, jars of homemade jam, bags of fresh vegetables and flower bouquets for the dinner table. Giving these things– the fruits of our labor– is our way of showing gratitude and appreciation to those we love.
You may not know this, but we usually add free daylilies to your order. We call them bonus daylilies, and they are worth roughly 20% of your total order. At Oakes, the bonus plant is kind of like that freebie gift that gardeners give to friends and neighbors. Bonus plants are gifts. You aren’t charged for them. You just open up your box and find an extra plant tucked inside. Bonus plants are our way– the gardeners way– of sharing what we love. They are our way of saying we appreciate you. They are our way of saying thank you for choosing us.
Bonus plants are good, healthy plants– NOT throw aways!
The value of the bonus plant we give is around 20% of the total order that was placed.

if your total order is $100.00, we will tuck an additional $20.00 worth of bonus daylilies into your box as we pack it.
A lot of thought goes into selecting bonus plants. Our customer service department looks at your order and tries to select something that will 1) grow well in your zone and 2) seems like something, based on your current and/or previous order, would like. We try to coordinate colors and height so your bonus daylily blends in perfectly with your garden tastes and design, and won’t stick out like a sore thumb.
