WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.
BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!
FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.
BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order and are the same huge, healthy plants we sell. Just leave the decision up to us and we’ll pick something you’re sure to love!
ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

A gorgeous must-have. Colors are very vibrant in my southeastern Wisconsin garden.

Strawberry Candy is faithful to bless my yard with color before my other daylilies. Her bright soft colors never disappoint. Her growth over the years has made a beautiful mound.

The clumps I received from Oakes were huge. We planted these in a mixed bed with Frankly Scarlet. When both are blooming there is no doubt when seen beside the dark red of FS that this is indeed a true pink. With reds and pinks we have learned over the years that the better the soil they are planted in, the deeper and more intense the color becomes. Like all daylillies, they will grow in almost any soil but the color will not be as good. Ours are planted in full sun and I have been very pleased with the fact that the color of neither Strawberry Candy nor Frankly Scarlett fade in the heat of the day. We have a large number of daylillies and Strawberry Candy is one of my favorites.

I bought this day lily about four years ago. We had to move to an apartment with no balcony so my husband dug them up and our son and daughter-in-law planted them in their townhome from flower bed.
When I had this day lily, the bloom color was pink with the red throat – just like the pictures. I wonder if these color changes relate to soil, planting area and weather?

The attached photo of Strawberry Candy was of a bloom on July 31st, 2020 of a new plant that was received on July 9th, 2020 from Oakes. It’s just one sample of their excellent plants. I’m looking forward to seeing this one grow and bloom in future years!

Beautiful blooms, but nowhere near pink in my West Tennessee garden. As many others have said, Strawberry Candy is more orange than pink. In fact, I would describe mine as tangerine and red rather than two shades of pink as it appears in the Oakes photos. I’m disappointed in the bloom color, but not the plant.

This is a beautiful daylily, but in my garden (in Augusta, GA) a better name would be “Cream Sickle” since it’s the color of orange sherbet. I planted these last September and they are sending up several scapes per plant. They border the sidewalk in front of my house (planted a dozen) to replace orange daylilies. Have to admit that after all that work, I had hoped for pink. I see that others have seen climate affect color, so I’ll wait to see what happens next year.

I am a “new” gardener but I’ve always loved daylilies. My mother always had them in her garden. Last year I decided I was going to plant my own garden and have daylilies in it. I ordered 6 from Oakes and Strawberry Candy was one of them. Since I’ve ordered many more. I received them the first wk of June and within in the first 3 wks strawberry candy was blooming. I was so happy and shocked as well. When I received these bare roots I wasn’t sure I could even keep them alive but they are tough plants.

Just planted first of June and it has now bloomed. The bloom is beautiful however there is no pink or strawberry at all. It is a beautiful light orange which we have had over 30 inches of rain the last 6 weeks and could be the soil even though other daylilies in same area are true to color. Still love it. Will see what happens next year.

Strawberry Candy has been in my garden for 4 years. The first full year year there were 3-4 scapes and simply beautiful. The second and third years were disappointing due to drought. This is the third year with drought conditions but this daylily toughened up and put on a display this year that is simply spectacular and jaw dropping. There are at least 15 scapes and is about 30 inches in circumference. For toughness and durability despite inconsistent weather conditions, this is the daylily to purchase. You will not be disappointed.

This is my favorite daylily. Even BETTER than the photo. It is so bright and beautiful I stand at my kitchen window and stare at it. Spectacular blooms.

I bought 3 of these about 5 years ago, moved 2 times, took them with me. I have a good color but not as bright as the picture. I think they should be a staple in every garden-beautiful blooms, rebloom(water & a little fertilizer)& nice foliage. I added another from Oakes sort of late last year and still saw some blooms. I love this one.

I was happy to see another reviewer say his/hers is a cooked strawberry color. I have wondered several times if mine is named correctly because the blooms are never as bright as the photos I see but is still gorgeous! I started with 2 fans four years ago and have a huge plant now! Divided for first time 3 mos ago and now have three large plants. You will LOVE these flowers! Mine are kind of a smokey mauve-pink w/bright rose-pink edges. I’ve tried to photograph many times but can never catch the beauty on film!

A prolific bloomer with a high bud count. The last 2 years mine has carried a hint of orange (presumably due to climate conditions), but still very beautiful. Reblooms for me when Mother Nature cooperates by not sending an early frost! This year I’m seeing several polytepals!

Mine is more a “cooked strawberry color” than the bright of your picture. It is still very lovely and very hardy. Mine has begun to spread.

Mine (not bought here) is more orange than pink, but it may change next year. It still looks great though and even at sunset it looks as perfect as it did at 9am.

Color very close to picture – it really is a strawberry! Eyezone very distinct. Very sturdy scapes. Strong grower. Highly recommend.

WOW!!! I would give this plant an 11 if I could. If given enough water it will bloom several times, even into October. The blooms are larger than Stella-d-Oro, and have a beautiful color to them. Good multiplier also.

A rich color that doesn’t fade. Many blooms per scape. Mine has never rebloomed in 6 years, but even so, I’m not disappointed because it’s stunning.

Plant contains alot of blooms and the foliage stays nice while blooming. The color of the daylily is the reason to put this one in your garden. Very unique.

Strawberry Candy looks good enough to eat! I have it in the back yard and also the west border. It blooms taller in the west border; earlier, too. My back-yard specimen gets less sun. But the number of blooms on both is never disappointing. It’s actually prettier than the picture; the colors are exquisite.

I love this daylily! Here in the upper peninsula of Michigan, this daylily has multiplied, and thrived during our severe winters, loads of buds, pest free, beautiful shade of pink, one of my favorites.

This flower with its strawberry coloring and strawberry halo are enhanced by a yellow throat. This color combo is what makes Strawberry Candy so special. It is stunning and defintly a plant I could not live without.
