3″ bloom, 18-24″ tall, Early Season + rebloom, Dormant

‘Stella De Oro’ daylily is the most popular and widely-grown daylily of all time. Renowned for outstanding repeat blooms, its bright golden blooms decorate our garden from late May until frost. Compact mounded foliage, vigorous growth and phenomenal blooming make it an excellent choice for your home garden or business landscaping.

Stella De Oro is not our flashiest daylily or even, if we’re being honest, our most beautiful. But if you are looking for a pretty plant that is reliable, easy to care for and can thrive almost anywhere, it’s hard to beat Stella.

Winner of the Stout Medal, daylily’s highest award.

STELLA DE ORO DAYLILY FEATURES:

‘Stella De Oro’ daylily is the most popular and widely-grown daylily of all time. In our part of the country, it is used not only in home gardens, but in commercial landscapes, highway median plantings and anywhere you could possibly plant a daylily. Some people say it’s overused, but here at Oakes Daylilies, we call it the the GOAT.

Stella De Oro is not our flashiest daylily or even, if we’re being honest, our most beautiful. But if you are looking for a pretty plant that is reliable, easy to care for and can thrive almost anywhere, it’s hard to beat Stella.

Renowned for outstanding repeat blooms, its bright, 3″ golden blooms decorate our garden from late May until frost. Compact mounded foliage, vigorous growth and phenomenal blooming make it an excellent choice for your home garden or business landscaping. It doesn’t quit.

An early season bloomer, we can typically expect to see this lovely daylily around late May in our East Tennessee garden. If you are to the north of us, you can expect to see it a couple of weeks after we do. If you are to our south, you can look forward to seeing it a bit before us. Outstanding rebloom means we’ll see these beacon-bright gold blooms in our garden until frost.

A dormant daylily, Stella De Oro is best grown in gardens that receive a sustained cold period in the winter.

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

  1. Better daylilies out there

    Kathy Shreve

While this is a tough daylily, there are prettier, equally tough daylilies inthis class. The cheddar-cheese orange color does not go well with most other colors, and the blooms are nothing to write home about. Try ‘Pardon Me’, ‘Little Grapette’, or one of the other small daylilies derived from ‘Stella’ for better color and more interesting blooms.
