Rye, NY –
I received 3 robust divisions of ‘Red Rum’ in mid-April, 2013, which were thick enough to divide, yielding 6 divisions with plenty of root. Today (June 26), they are all in bud, and my first flower — as big as a stop light — has appeared. Red is a difficult color to photograph, but the photograph by Oakes is true. Red Rum is a red on the orange side ( NOT anything like ‘ditch daylily orange’) – a reddish coral. Very rich and warm in color, excellent substance and texture. My garden location for Red Rum does not get full sun, yet they (and my Oakes bonus daylily – Siloam June Bug) are growing well. I am thrilled.

Garrison, NY (verified owner) –
I have a long run of Red Rum edging garden stairs, accented by two white buddleias in an area that is sometimes dry because it is difficult to water on the slope. This Red Rum run always includes one of my first daylily blooms and covers itself with bloom for an extended period. The color is perhaps more coral than cherry red, very like the picture, and seems to set off all other garden colors. The hummingbirds love it. Highly recommended as a landscape lily.

There is no compelling reason to make room in your garden for this plant. A mediocre performer in a red that doesn’t hold up particularly well to the sun and isn’t even an interesting shade of red.

This daylily is a beautiful orange-red, similar to Mexican Maiden, but tinier. A winner in my garden!

My Red Rum bloomed today for the first time and I actually had to do a double take- it looks in color exactly like the dark ditch lilys growing along the roadsides. I will be moving this one out of view. It is not red like the picture but a burnt orange. Disappointing.

Arlington, TX –
I purchased quite a few of the Red Rum day lilies because the photo showed them to be a pretty red. I wanted the contrast against my green garden house. I will have to admit I was disappointed when the color was more of a brick red. I will probably transplant these to my other day lily beds and purchase Red Volunteer which is absolutely gorgeous.

Charlotte, NC –
Just planted this in the fall and it’s just bloomed for the first time. The flowers are not the bright red shown in the picture which is what I was hoping for, but it’s still pretty.

I planted this free plant last year. It didn’t bloom that year which was disappointing, however, this year it did bloom and the flowers are delightful! They produced several blossoms on only two scapes and held up well in our summer climate.

Red Rum is a compact plant with loads of blooms and very nice red color. Blooms for a long time, was one of my favorites.
