* 6″ bloom, 24″ tall, Mid-Late Season + rebloom, Dormant
Intense, deep orange blooms shine in the garden. Petals are darker than sepals, with a deeper orange blush extending from the throat and a prominent yellow midrib. Awesome mass display.
Although listed as dormant, this variety has been proven to successfully grow in zones 3-10.
I am in shock! Today, 10-27-21, my Lady Lucille is blooming. This is rare. Our temps were mid to upper 40s for past several days. People r wearing jkts and there she is strutting her beauty! I love this beautiful daylily. It will probably never bloom again at the end of Oct., but it’s a treasure in late June here in West TN. I highly recommend her. Beautiful deep orange/two tone.
This was the bonus plant I received when I ordered from the online bloom festival. I received this plants July 8. Oakes sends bare root plants with the foliage trimmed. When I opened the package I was surprised to see the foliage had grown during shipping. These plants looked like they had been in my garden all summer after two weeks. I currently have scapes and am looking forward to those vivid orange blooms. This is truly a testament to the quality and vigor of Oakes plants.
I had planted Lady Lucille last year and forgot that I’d done so. When it appeared in early July, it was almost rusty brown. Later, the blooms turned brilliant orange, and my prolific plants were still blooming in August. This was a winner for me, and I just planted another 12 of them in another part of my garden.
Beautiful, show stopper in the garden! Can be seen from a ways away! Beautiful lines, vibrant orange blooms! Robust and easy! Loved them so much, bought more this year!
I planted this beauty in March in Prescott, AZ, zone 7 in an area that only has about 5 hours of sun. What a pleasant surprise to see this beauty show off. I didn’t expect any blooms until next year (2022) since it was newly planted. A real winner!
Wow! I bought this in honor of a friend named Lucille, but this plant has taken my heart. She starts blooming here and lights up the garden. A strong grower, she is multiplying quickly and puts on a great show of blooms late in the season! (and the price is a bargain!)
Despite being stuck in a box for two weeks due to shipping delays, she perked right up once planted. Bright green leaves and new growth already coming in nicely I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for a bloom this year.
This is such a great color in real life. Lady Lucille is a bright cheery orange with highlights that are more yellow so that the effect is a bright and happy color. The plant seems healthy and strong and bloomed the first summer after they were planted in the fall.
Stunning is the only word I can think of to describe this daylily. It literally lights up the garden. Not a ditch lily orange at all. Oakes’ service is unsurpassed. Their shipping is on time and the plants are just beautiful every time I receive a shipment. Just great people to deal with!
I have received Oakes catalogs for years and carefully look through every page, but I just can’t find another day lily that I am as smitten with as Lady Lucille. This lady is stunning, blooms and blooms and blooms and beckons everyone for a closer look. You can’t go wrong with Oakes or this beautiful flower!
OK since orange isn’t my favorite color I kept moving Lucille around to different spots. Apparently, she left a little part of her root in different spots because she is popping up everywhere! The place that gets the most water has a darker orange color and the ones in the drier spot are a little more orange/ orange.
She is becoming a favorite of mine. Very big blooms and beautiful scapes.!
When Blooms of Bressingh released this day lily, I trailed in in the Michigan State University Perennial Trials, in Zone 5. Lady Lucille was an instant success and one of the few plants that I gave a 5-star evaluation rating. It was vigorous with nice foliage that held up well through the growing season. The flower display stopped visitors in their tracks. This cultivar is a must have for any day lily connoisseur!
Waleska GA, planted last fall, not many blooms this year… But it has been so dry and hot… mine are more vivid than than the photo – very bright yellow amid deep orange.
I planted two Lady Lucille last year in my northern Indiana garden. They are in a half day sun area, and this year have 8 & 9 scapes respectively. Lucille has begun to bloom just as Mauna Loa stopped, and so they have kept the beautiful, hot orange color going. She has large flowers, bright clear color, and a high bud count – just the things I look for in a daylily!
Wow, this Beautiful and Bright Daylily is still blooming mid-Oct. and based on the blooms it will be blooming all the way until the end of Oct. It began June 29, and paused in Aug. only to begin again in the 3rd week of Sept. I split the fans I was sent last year into two plants and both have done equally well in zone 7 Middle Tn. I have had 6 blooms open on 2 scrapes at one time. You won’t regret this purchase!
This is such a stunning lily! I have an area dedicated to this lily and also Real Wind. The vibrant orange of Lady Lucille is softened by the light, peachy blooms of Real Wind. Together, they both make me gasp at the sheer beauty, and sigh at the subtle nuances of the pairing. This is their first year, and each plant had multiple scapes. I look forward to them multiplying into a dazzling display. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.
Stunning!!! Planted this beauty last fall and looks like a mature plant already. Masses of scrapes and the size of the buds and flowers are enormous…and oh, the color is breathtaking…Love it!!!!!
I purchased Lady Lucille Spring of 2013 – didn’t bloom in first year. In June of this year I moved from Iowa to Boise, Idaho. I dug up this plant, along with my other day lilies, putting plants into small boxes with dirt around roots, transported in back of our pickup with a plastic tarp. The plants were out of the ground for two weeks. Today, Lady Lucille, had it’s first flower. It was worth the wait – the flower is absolutely stunning – bright orange with red – really stands out in my garden. I have it planted right next to Autumn Wood, another amazing plant purchased from Oakes Daylilies. All 13 of my day lilies purchased from this great Company have all survived the recent move and are all blooming. Oakes sells the very best plants.
the picture doesn’t do it justice. had my first bloom today. such a beautiful color of deep orange and red. WOWZA!!!!!! I look forward to many years of this beauty.
Oh my goodness! The first day of bloom was so breathtaking I wanted to come outside before breakfast. The scapes are tall and the bloom is incredibly big. I love it and want more. Thanks Oakes.
It would be difficult to find a better orange daylily. I have had it in my N. Idaho garden for 13 years and it just gets better every year. It doesn’t need to be divided to keep blooming and is not bothered by cold weather in the winter, and It doesn’t seem to be bothered by being crowded. It averages about 25 to 30 scapes and 350 to 400 buds now, but of course started out with only a few scapes when young and increased every year.
‘Lady Lucille’ is a refined beauty indeed… far more appealing in person than the catalog picture! This is her first full growing season in my garden, and the blooms continued from late May through mid July (zone 8b). ‘Lady Lucille’ is my all-time favorite daylily!!
I hadn’t ordered because of this picture, so this is my first year – if I were Lucille I’d call my agent and complain about the pic! She is so beautiful – like Tuscawilla Tigress but shorter and cranked up a notch.
Lady Lucille is a knock-your-socks-off daylily. She has been blooming in my garden for 2 years. I couldn’t be more pleased with her performance. The color is simply stunning. If you get a chance plant Mauna Loa (which I have) as well, and then you will be like me – trying to decide which just elicits the oohh’s and aahh’s more. Manua Loa’s blooming period is ending when Lady Lucille is beginning and I get dizzy looking back and forth, trying to decide which is more beautiful.
AHS or not — Lady Lucille is an exquisite beauty! Such a vibrant neon orange with large blossoms. A real stand-out in my garden, literally glistening in the afternoon sun! And this is only her first year in my garden! The photo pictured does not capture her brilliance!
WOW!! This is a real beauty! Just received this daylily from my mom, who is an avid collector, and now I’m on my way to being a big daylily fan!! Planted it last week and within days have had big, beautiful blooms. Really brightens up the garden. Can’t wait to see what my other lilies do!!
I ordered this daylily two years ago, and it has really come into its own this year. There were so many blooms (there are still a few left to bloom), and the gorgeous orange blooms are HUGE! My neighbors (and I!!!) LOVE my Oakes Daylilies!

It’s pretty simple: most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter, dormant varieties won’t work for you; you need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.
We normally include bonus plants equal to about 20% of your order. And these aren’t “leftover” plants, or “whatever we’ve got lying around.” These are the same huge, healthy plants we sell. Just leave the decision up to us— we’ll pick something we know you’ll love!
Daylily Stickers!
After the year we’ve all had, we’re trying to wring whatever joy we can find out of every day— even Tax Day*. So we put our thinking caps on and thought, “What is silly and fun and makes everyone happy?”.
That’s when it hit us: stickers! To make your day brighter, we are offering 13 stickers free with every order today through April 19!!!
Stick ’em on your water bottle, your cooler, your laptop (even your wheelbarrow!) or wherever else you could use a bit of cheery color.
*We know that Tax Day has officially been moved to May 17. Since today is traditionally Tax Day, though, we’re going for it.

I love Lady Lucille as this is a very vigorous bloomer with stunning color. The two-toned orange pairs well with many other flowers.
