Double Sun Daylily Features:

‘Double Sun’ is a golden gem of a daylily. Consistently on our Best Sellers list, Double Sun is a proven performer with a sunny disposition. Vibrant, double yellow blooms on tall scapes make a nice, cheerful show in the garden.

Adding to its outstanding appeal is the fact that it’s also fragrant. A bright spot in the garden that is sure to knock you off our feet. A relatively small, 4″ golden double bloom on scapes a bit less than 3′ in our East Tennessee garden, we think this daylily looks like sunshine on a scape.

A mid to late season daylily, we usually begin to see Double Sun in our East Tennessee garden around mid June. If you live to our north, you’ll see it a bit later than we do. If you live to our south, you’ll likely see it a couple of weeks before we do.

Double Sun is a dormant variety;  it’s a great choice if you live in an area that gets a sustained cold period in the winter.

Thanks to its cheery, sunny yellow blooms, Double Sun blends seamlessly with nearly every color in the garden. We think it looks especially lovely when planted with daylilies that have a yellow throat or edge. Eye-popping!!

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

Double Sun is the latest blooming lily that I have in my garden and it is worth the wait. The blooms are a beautiful sunny yellow and the plants have lots of blooms on each scape. A great way to wrap up my day lily season!

  2. Bright beauty

    Tim Clark (verified owner)

Double Sun is beautiful and a very clear yellow that you notice from a distance. I’ve never had a bloom that was single either. I wish it was a bit bigger, but the quantity of blooms offsets that for me. Lovely growth habit here in spite of the cold winters we experience too!

Double Sun has performed well in zone 7a, Tennessee. The bright yellow double blooms on tall scapes show up well across the garden. They are like beaming rays of sun. I look forward to seeing it bloom each year…. it never fails!

Double Sun is a great daylily. It has such a nice soft yellow color, but the beauty comes from the fact it is a double with ruffled petals. I get lots of blooms and I can recommend it.

    Beautiful, bright, pure yellow

    Terrie s.

We just received this plant a month ago. Already had two flowers on it. Beautiful, bright, pure yellow. Seems to be growing strongly. Will be ordering more. They would be stunning in a group.
