Apache War Dance Features:

‘Apache War Dance’ daylily is one of those varieties where the picture doesn’t do it justice.  Blooms are a gorgeous shade of ruby red that shines in the garden. A light fragrance elevates this already perfect daylily.

4 1/2″ blooms shine on scapes 30″ tall in our East Tennessee garden. A mid-to-late season bloomer, we typically first see these brilliant red blooms around the middle of June here in zone 7. If you are to our north, you’ll likely see them a bit later than we do. Those of you to our south will see them a couple of weeks before us. Good rebloom means you’ll see them off and on throughout the season, making it a great choice to extend daylily season.

Apache War Dance is a Dormant daylily which means it grows best in planting zones that have a sustained cold period in winter, like 8-3.

These bold and bright blooms look fiery and beautiful on their own but look especially lovely with purple or gold. Try them paired with hot pink for an eye-popping display!

HOW TO GROW DAYLILIES: Daylilies are very easy-to-grow. They like a lot of sun and they like a lot of water. For more information on how to care for daylilies, click here.
WHAT DAYLILIES CAN I GROW: Most of you can grow any of the daylilies we sell. If you live in an area with a sustained cold period like we do in East Tennessee, you can grow all the varieties. However, If you live in an area that doesn’t get freezing weather in the winter (like zones 9 and 10), dormant varieties won’t work for you; you’ll need to choose evergreen or semi-evergreen varieties.

BIG PLANTS! When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and bloom more quickly!

FARM-FRESH TO YOU! All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.

BONUS DAYLILIES: We send free daylilies (we call them “bonus” daylilies) with every order. These daylilies are equal to about 20% of your order, you get to choose what you’d like at checkout.

ABOUT US: Oakes Daylilies is a family-owned daylily farm that’s been in business for three generations. Our daylilies grow in home gardens, city parks and botanical gardens across the nation– including Hawaii and Canada. We are known in the industry as Daylily Experts and grow over 1000 varieties of daylilies on nearly 70 acres in East Tennessee. But over 50 years ago, we started just like you—with one daylily in a home garden.

  2. Brilliant addition to the garden

    C Jeffrey Mc Lean

Chicago Apache is a brilliant addition to my Zone 7a mountain garden. I liked it so much that I bought more to bring color where it was lacking. The blooms are very striking and the plants are strong.

    Fabulous!

    Diane Gibson (verified owner)

This has everything: the color shimmers and shines, long bloom time, blooms are substantial and sometimes double, sturdy scapes, good bud count, nice pure forest green leaves. Had for several years and it establishes and multiplies fast.

    Judy Hildreth (verified owner)

This is the second time I have ordered from here and I couldn’t be happier. They met all my expectations and more – very healthy plants. I can’t wait until they bloom and you can count on more purchases. Photo shos plant after less then a month in the ground.

What is your hardiness zone? Zone 9

When most of my other daylilies are on their last few blooms (or completely done!), Apache War Dance is JUST STARTING! An excellent choice if you’re wanting to extend your daylily blooming season! The rich tomato red virtually glows–you won’t be disappointed!
